Oh The Laws, They Are A Changin’: Evolving Cybersecurity & Privacy Regulations and Their Impact

Things are starting to get interesting when it comes to cybersecurity and data privacy regulations. After years of issuing only high-level regulations with no practical guidance on how they should be implemented, regulators are finally dipping their toes into the rulemaking waters again in a race to establish their jurisdiction over cybersecurity. Unfortunately, prescriptive regulations have a tendency to become outdated before the legislative ink dries. This session will discuss some recent regulatory developments – namely, the NY DFS cybersecurity regulations, NAIC Data Security Model Law, GDPR, and pending legislation in the California Legislature (Cal. SB 327) – and what they mean for security professionals and the industry as a whole.
